From 1792, this map is based on Pierre L'enfant's plan for the new capital city. The source map was made by Andrew Ellicott and originally printed by Thackara & Vallance in Philadelphia.
This canvas features white graphics based on the source map overlaid on a red background, stretched over a 1.25" thick solid wood frame.
This map goes back to the beginning for Washington DC.
The map notes that the land for the new planned capital city was ceded by the neighboring states of Maryland and Virginia.
Today, DC's boundaries extend beyond the original plan, but the city's characteristic diagonal streets and circles are still in place. The shape of the tidal basin and other coastal areas has also changed over the years with dredging and land reclamation.
Each map is printed on real cotton linen canvas. It is then stretched over a solid wood frame. Your map arrives ready to hang without the need for any additional framing.
